Open-source setup adds multiple providers to Codex desktop via a local Responses proxy
LinkSudah · reddit · 2026-09-30
- A developer released codex-ccswitch for the official Codex desktop app: a combined model catalog plus a local Responses proxy that routes each selected model to the right provider, with OpenRouter support and optional Cheaper Inference.
- For other providers, just tell your Codex agent — if the API is compatible it can adapt the proxy, but it should verify authentication, model IDs, streaming, and tool calls rather than just adding a name to the picker.
- The post includes a ready-to-use prompt: have the agent inspect the repo, set up the native app, add specified OpenRouter model IDs, ask for API keys locally without displaying them, back up the existing Codex config, then test external and native models, tool calls, and restart before enabling the combined picker — and show how to undo it.
- Caveats: the README has manual steps and security notes (never paste keys into chat); the global combined picker depends on the local proxy even for native models, so verify fallback first.
