AWS Bedrock Brings Claude Opus 5, Sonnet 5, Haiku 4.5 to In-Country Inference in India

AWS announced that Anthropic's Claude Opus 5, Claude Sonnet 5, and Claude Haiku 4.5 are now available in India via Amazon Bedrock's India geographic cross-Region inference, keeping data processing within the country for local compliance needs.
How it works:
- Requests route only between ap-south-1 (Mumbai) and ap-south-2 (Hyderabad); prompts and results may move between the two Regions but stay within India.
- Cross-Region inference draws on a broader compute pool for consistent throughput under load; traffic uses the secure AWS network with end-to-end encryption in transit. Bedrock applies a zero data retention (ZDR) model by default, though some models require AWS human review when flagged by safety classifiers.
- Billing, quotas, CloudWatch metrics, and CloudTrail logs are all tracked in the source Region.
The post also walks through trying models in the Bedrock console Playground and calling the India inference profile (e.g., in.anthropic.claude-opus-5) with the Anthropic Messages API, InvokeModel, and Converse API, including full Python examples, with support for Guardrails and intelligent prompt routing.
