Zero Japanese papers at SOSP 2026: a systems researcher on what AI-era systems research demands
tianyin_xu · x · 2026-09-30
- SOSP 2026's accepted papers include no full papers with Japanese university affiliations. TopCsUniv data shows Japanese universities contributed only 6 of 2,143 papers (0.28%) across SOSP/OSDI/NSDI/ASPLOS/SIGMETRICS in 2022–2026.
- Systems professor Tianyin Xu agrees this reflects a real weakness, and argues systems research matters more than ever in the AI era: "if we want AI to write our systems, we have to show it how." He cites zpoline and mold as examples of the perfectionism and perseverance of excellent Japanese systems work.
