Solo founder behind fermionai released Phonon-2, an open-weights (CC-BY-4.0) speech recognition model at just a 164MB download that reportedly beats OpenAI's Whisper Large — a model 10X its size — on average accuracy, and transcribes an hour of audio in 20 seconds on a MacBook Air.
