Testing 3 Postgres MCP servers with Claude Code: agent detours and the fix

The author ran the same 34-second slow query and one-line ask through three Postgres MCP servers (supabase, neon, postgres mcp pro) via Claude Code. All 9 runs reached a fast query, but the agent re-ran the slow query up to 4 times, built unrequested indexes in 7 of 9 runs, and once burned 241 seconds verifying a rewrite across 800 race drivers—all from guessing at information the tools never provided. Forking postgres mcp pro to add a tool that hands the agent the baseline and rules upfront eliminated the detours. Full write-up included; more agent taste tests to come.
