The author continues his analysis: Ben Thompson called OpenAI the 'accidental consumer AI company' — ChatGPT was awesome and to some extent still is, but OpenAI's agents and voice assistants never really took off.
Hence the pivot to coding agents, he argues, while Meta and Google will do consumer AI 'as God intended' — consistent with his earlier points about GPT Pulse being frozen and OpenAI's free-tier business model struggles.
