A rough back-of-envelope calc on frontier-lab ARR: fewer than 50M SWEs worldwide; even generously assuming 100M customers paying an average of $200/mo (API folded in), the whole frontier-model pie is under $250B/yr shared across all providers. Anthropic/OpenAI at $75B ARR and flattening may be closer to a hard ceiling than valuations suggest. The author also argues Codex/Claude now do so much work that many SWEs would happily pay half their salary for a 2-day work week — and today's $200/mo pricing only holds because of competition from open-weight models.
