Modulate raises $25M for voice analysis, deepfake detection suite

Boston-based voice intelligence startup Modulate has raised $25M led by Future Ventures, with participation from Hyperplane and Lakestar. PitchBook data shows the company had previously raised $41M at a $170M valuation.
- Founded in 2017 by MIT physics grads Mike Pappas and Carter Huffman
- Its platform runs an array of small models for transcription, emotional analysis, deepfake and AI music detection, and policy enforcement for voice agents in regulated industries
- As voice cloning gets trivially easy, deepfake call protection and conversational intent analysis have become a hot investment area
