AWS launched Strands Harness, an open-source agent framework targeting the gap between local prototypes and scalable cloud deployment.
- Runs in any environment: AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, Modal, Cloudflare, or locally with an Ollama model.
- Model-agnostic, built on the Strands SDK, and works with Anthropic, OpenAI, Amazon Bedrock, and Google frontier models.
- Ships with out-of-the-box read/write/edit, shell, and web search tools, relying on tools the underlying model already knows rather than bespoke ones.
- AWS claims 26% better efficiency and 77% lower cost than Claude Code on identical tasks (self-reported, not independently verified).
