MIT CSAIL director and Liquid AI co-founder Daniela Rus argues AI is entering a hybrid, local-first era: small capable models now run on phones, cars, and robots, handling seeing, listening, and summarizing on-device, with an intelligent router offloading only the hardest tasks to the cloud. She frames local intelligence as faster, more private, sustainable, and economical — "powerful without being wasteful, ubiquitous without being intrusive, personal without requiring surveillance."
