Living Science Uses AI to Keep Influential Economics Papers Up to Date
ChenhaoTan · x · 2026-09-29
ChenhaoTan's team launched Living Science (livingscience.ai), with UChicago Economics and SAILab, using AI agents to revisit influential economics papers with fresh data. Published updates include Shimer (2012) — hiring still drives unemployment except the 2020 layoff wave; Blanchard-Katz (1992) — regional adjustment patterns persist, but migration accounts for 24–28% of first-year adjustment after 2008 vs 38% in 1978–90; and Cengiz et al. (2019) — still no detectable job loss through the fifteen-dollar era. The team argues for shared public records of updated evidence, plans at least one new paper per week, and invites the community to nominate papers.
