Chestnut unveils 18-DOF Aero Hand plus matching exoskeleton for zero-gap humanoid data capture

Chestnut announced a paired hardware setup for humanoid dexterous hands:
- Aero Hand: an 18-DOF human-sized dexterous hand using a tendon/linkage hybrid design, tested for 3M+ cycles.
- Aero UMI: a wearable exoskeleton whose kinematics exactly match the robotic hand, with direct per-joint angle sensing accurate to 0.1°, enabling zero-embodiment-gap human data collection that doubles as a teleop rig.
The author notes UMI-style capture works well for simple grippers, but for high-DOF hands—where the action space is huge and contact force carries the key signal—matching the data collector to the hand matters even more.
