Dev uses Claude Opus to finally ship a 13-year-old gooey Metaballs Three.js demo
thespite · x · 2026-09-29
Developer thespite has remade his 2013 Bumpy Metaballs tech demo, a variation on marching cubes with a blurry, gooey interior that he'd tried for years with pure raymarching and hybrid volume rendering — finally presentable with help from Claude Opus. The new version polygonalizes on the GPU, lights via an environment map, supports more shapes, and adds ambient occlusion, traced shadows, and a postprocessing stage, with better performance. Live demo and source are available.
