House Speaker Mike Johnson said on Squawk Box that "a little oversight," transparency requirements, and external auditing of AI would be appropriate. Reporter Ben Brody flags this as new: Johnson had recently said Congress couldn't legislate here without industry agreement, and frontier labs would mostly be fine with a federal framework given state-level consensus. The House won't act until after the elections.
