Responding to the argument that semiconductor and hardware industries must come before data centers, the author argues sequence matters but isn't a gate: waiting for a complete chip supply chain just shifts dependency to renting models, cloud, and evaluation services.
A data center isn't just a GPU warehouse — it's also power, water, cooling, data, and the right to shut the system down from within. Sovereignty doesn't mean making every component yourself; it means being able to measure, limit, and turn off the system without anyone else's permission. Like desalination moving the water problem to energy, chasing full self-sufficiency rarely arrives whole — don't leap without counting limits, but don't stand still either.
