Robotics conf RSS 2027 overhauls review: 6-page abstracts then an Extension Charter

Facing submission volumes like ICLR's reported 60K abstract registrations, the Robotics: Science and Systems (RSS) 2027 conference is replacing the single-deadline submit-and-rebuttal cycle with a two-stage shepherding process:
- Stage 1: authors submit a 6-page Extended Abstract (up to 5 pages content + 1 page references); problem, hypotheses, and methodology must be fully developed, experiments can be preliminary
- Stage 2: after rebuttal, reviewers and ACs define an "Extension Charter" specifying required additional work; final acceptance is based on rigor and meaningful insights, and negative results can count
Organizers say the goal is to preserve human oversight amid expected LLM-assisted "AI slop" submissions and rebalance publishing toward long-term scientific progress. Key dates: abstracts due Dec 4, 2026; decisions Apr 30, 2027; conference Jul 6–11, 2027 in Athens.
