Tesla postponed a car reveal citing a thunderstorm forecast — but the venue and airspace closures suggest otherwise: the FAA had already shut down the airspace up to 10,000 feet, the event is at SpaceX's rocket test facility in McGregor, Texas, and attendees were told it "can only be held outdoors."
Per The Information's August report, the demo Roadster carries roughly 10 cold gas thrusters where the back seats would go — the same system SpaceX uses to steer Falcon 9. The car will be empty, with spectators kept hundreds of meters back due to hearing damage risk. A car hovering on compressed gas has no aerodynamic control, so wind takes it wherever it wants, explaining the weather call.
