Idle time in demos teaches robots to do nothing — dev open-sources a LeRobot dataset editor
lhoestq · x · 2026-09-29
While fine-tuning a π0.5 VLA, the author found that leaving idle time in demonstration data teaches the policy to do nothing. He open-sourced lerobot-dataset-editor, a local web UI for LeRobot v3.0 datasets: replay every camera, inspect joint traces, drag handles to trim episode heads/tails, delete bad takes, and fix task descriptions. Trimming only adjusts timestamps and parquet row counts — no video re-encoding — keeping edits cheap and Rerun-safe.
