Brundage: intelligence explosion needn't be Pareto—just buy it with more compute

Clarifying his debate with Talia Ringer, Miles Brundage says he is skeptical of the "recursive" and "self" parts of recursive self-improvement. But he argues things can move fast because an intelligence explosion doesn't strictly require Pareto improvement—it could be "bought" by scaling compute, instance counts, and test-time compute, and need not involve a monolithic AI.
