Shopify opens checkout to browser-based AI agents via WebMCP

While Amazon and others block AI shopping agents, Shopify is moving the other way: browser-based agents can now complete purchases on merchant sites.
- WebMCP previously covered storefronts and carts (search, inventory, add-to-cart)
- New WebMCP support for checkout, including Shop Pay, lets agents read the checkout screen, update order details, and submit transactions with buyer authorization — no screenshots or scraping
- Three new tools including getcheckout and updatecheckout
Developers including Zed's CEO zeeg are hyped; WebMCP is already live in usekernel's browser. Agentic commerce just moved from browsing to paying.
