Dev ships browser-based Fallout: New York built with AI — free to play, just 6MB
chrisfirst · x · 2026-09-29
Developer @chrisfirst released Fallout: New York, a fan-made Fallout game that runs entirely in the browser (6MB, desktop only). Set in a ruined Manhattan, it features V.A.T.S., Pip-Boy, third-person view, and other classic mechanics, free to play at fallout.nyc.
It's an unofficial, non-commercial project not affiliated with Bethesda. In a thread documenting the AI-assisted build, the author's key takeaway: AI is incredibly fast, but taste and judgment are still the job — he decided what New York should feel like, what to cut, which critic was right, and when to ship.
Built-in niceties include F8 bug reporting (auto-attaches a screenshot plus position) and a RobCo debug menu via P (noclip, god mode, skip the vault, weather controls).
