Methodology: Since hyperscalers like Microsoft, Amazon and Google were already spending heavily on data centers before the AI boom (cloud storage, search, video, ads), their capex reports don't isolate AI spending. Goldman treats 2022 capex as a pre-boom baseline and counts nearly everything above it in 2026 as AI investment, while excluding financial leases to avoid double-counting the same hardware.
