The 2004 Leaf Stomata Distributed Computation Paper, With Link
eigenron · x · 2026-09-29
This reply to the earlier post about the 2004 paper on distributed computation in leaves adds the link to the paper itself. The paper shows stomata form synchronized spatial patches while solving the CO2 uptake vs. water-loss tradeoff, exhibiting power-law spectra, long-memory dynamics, event-size scaling, and coherent "information particles" propagating across leaves — behavior similar to cellular automata performing distributed computation.
