Linthicum argues most enterprises aren't using generative AI for core applications like inventory control — mostly calendar management and email drafting, often via unapproved shadow AI.
He contends waiting for bigger frontier models won't change this: core systems need narrow, self-hosted models built on in-house data, since small models are easier to test and debug.
