Build log: a memory-enabled incident investigation agent backend, plus a serverless SQLite fix
Fast-Connection-7722 · reddit · 2026-09-29
Backend dev Charantej breaks down TraceCause, an incident investigation agent that keeps institutional memory across sessions:
Architecture: current incident → backend services → memory store → LLM reasoning → investigation result. The backend orchestrates state; long-term memory stores past resolutions and post-mortems; the LLM merges telemetry with historical context into structured remediation steps.
Memory loop: instead of one-shot prompts, it runs Recall → Investigate → Resolve → Retain → Future Recall—query similar past failures, merge symptoms, analyze, then write key findings back after resolution.
Serverless SQLite fix: filesystem SQLite doesn't persist across stateless invocations on platforms like Vercel. Solution: use sql.js with an in-memory DB seeded with demo data at startup, separating ephemeral app state from persistent memory via an external memory API.
Takeaway: building LLM apps is mostly an orchestration and state-management problem—an incident DB tells you what's happening now; a memory system tells your agent what the team already learned.
