Base44 launched Base Code, letting non-engineering roles work directly on a company's existing codebase instead of queueing small fixes into the engineering backlog.
How it works:
- Connect the GitHub repo your team already uses; anyone can describe a change in plain language from the browser;
- No cloning the repo, no local environment setup, no handoff for minor changes;
- Base Code builds the change on an isolated branch, previews the real product running with it, and returns it as a standard GitHub pull request;
- Engineering still reviews code, runs existing checks, and decides what merges.
The pitch: open the codebase to more people while keeping engineering in control, not replacing the engineering workflow.
