A new NBER working paper by Matthew Schwartz, Isaiah Andrews, and Jesse M. Shapiro presents an LLM workflow that reproduces, improves, and extends published economics research, applied to over 4,000 public replication packages — among the largest demonstrations of LLMs automating scientific validation to date.
