Kevin Bass argues that AI doom is structurally the same grift he saw with campus social justice and DEI: the more fake problems are promoted, the more funding, fake jobs, and power flow to an administrative class.
He lists the payoffs of AI doomerism: laws that lock out competitors, fake jobs for incompetents and nepo hires, nonprofit dollars, prestige, new protected classes around safety researchers, and a new priest class.
His conclusion: it's the same hysterical register and grift, just a new domain with different levers for spreading fear to gain power.
