A Redditor explains why they still use tag-based models (SDXL, Pony, Illustrious, Anima) over newer natural-language models for anime and unrestricted art:
- Censorship & anatomy: newer models (e.g. Qwen Image 2.1) carry heavy safety filters and struggle with complex anatomy; Pony/Illustrious handle spicy themes and stylized anime out of the box
- Training cost: fine-tuning Flux-class models is far more compute-intensive; SDXL remains the community-training sweet spot
- Local batching: SDXL still generates large batches quickly for cherry-picking
They also released a free prompt generator with 3,000+ categorized tags and visual weight adjustment — no paywalls or subscriptions.
