Economist Paul Novosad criticizes researchers for spamming weak genAI papers into the NBER Working Paper series, asking what their "world model" is and what would happen if everyone did this. He speculates the perpetrators may not realize they are making the world worse, believing their ideas are simply that good. Another user replies that it's a shame nobody knows who these people are.
