MongoDB CEO CJ Desai resigns overnight to join Meta as founder Dev Ittycheria returns

MongoDB announced that CEO CJ Desai has stepped down effective immediately to take a senior role at Meta, with founder and former CEO Dev Ittycheria returning as interim CEO.
The abrupt shake-up comes after Ittycheria himself left midway through the company's 3.0 transformation, and Desai failed to last even a year in the role — fueling skepticism about MongoDB's strategic direction. The company reaffirmed its Q3 and FY27 guidance to calm investors.
