Adaptive 108-item English vocabulary test launches with IQ-based scoring

A new adaptive English vocabulary test is live on TakeTest, drawn from a 108-item pool: most items ask you to pick the word matching a definition, while harder ones require spotting two or three synonyms among five words, deliberately using rare vocabulary to probe the top of the range. The author argues vocabulary is the single best short measure of general intelligence in native speakers, with scores reported as IQ relative to White US adults of your age (calibrated on 499 US adults recruited via Prolific in 2023; see Kirkegaard 2024). It serves 25 items adaptively, up to 5 extra, taking 5–8 minutes; optional age/sex questions allow demographic breakdowns. Non-native speakers' scores mostly reflect English exposure, not intelligence.
