Google's Gemini Can Now Call Businesses for You on Pixel 11, Identifying Itself as AI
rvp · x · 2026-09-28
Google has launched an early experiment on Pixel 11: users can ask Gemini to call businesses to place orders, book appointments, make reservations or check stock.
- Gemini identifies itself as AI, provides a real-time transcript, and lets users take over at any moment
- It navigates automated phone menus and waits on hold, building on earlier "Direct My Call" and "Talk to a Live Representative" features
- This is Google's second attempt at automated business calls; Meta is testing something similar but faced backlash for routing some calls to human contractors
The open question: how will businesses feel about taking calls from AI assistants?
