grok-4.8 has appeared in Cursor's server-side model list, per a Magpie commit, with CLI variants including grok-4.8-high, grok-4.8-high-fast, and grok-4.8-xhigh-fast. It's explicitly referred to as "the next Grok release," so this isn't a typo.
The pacing is notable: Grok 4.7 shipped just a week ago on Sep 21, meaning xAI may be iterating at a remarkably fast clip. No release date yet.
