FSD tracker: no real-road crashes seen for v14 on HW4, viral crash videos often misattributed
Darpinian · x · 2026-09-28
Long-time Tesla FSD tracker Darpinian clarifies viral crash claims and offers a safety assessment:
- The visualization is not the driving input — the model doesn't drive based on the UI; it's an auxiliary output
- He has seen v14 lite (HW3) backing into things in parking lots, and viral crash videos later found not to be FSD at all
- He has not seen any video of v14 on HW4 getting into an actual road crash
- He doesn't "trust" it — he monitors it. A year ago using it was likely riskier than driving manually, but he believes that has now flipped: supervising FSD (with occasional takeovers) is generally safer, especially in unfamiliar areas
