Mirendil, founded by former Anthropic researchers, is in talks for a new funding round targeting a $5 billion valuation, with Kleiner Perkins in talks to lead and a16z discussing participation — up from a $1 billion seed valuation just three months ago.
The startup is betting on AI researching the next generation of AI: CEO Behnam Neyshabur worked on Anthropic's AI Scientist project, and CTO Harsh Mehta built Anthropic's internal automated AI research platform. Big labs have validated this capability internally but haven't offered it externally; Mirendil aims to sell that middle layer. It has no product or revenue yet — the $5B valuation is a bet on its first model arriving in two years.
