IDC: global enterprise agents to hit 2.2 billion by 2030 as token use grows 48x faster; $381B compute gap

IDC and Inspur released their 2026 AI compute report at AICC2026, arguing agents are rewriting how AI is measured and built:
- Agent & token explosion: active enterprise agents grow from 79.4M (2026) to 2.216B (2030, 129.8% CAGR); token consumption CAGR hits 4822.6% — 37x the agent growth rate. Annual agent-executed tasks jump from 280B to 415 trillion.
- Compute demand: total tokens = task count × tokens per task × multi-agent amplification. China's intelligent compute reaches 2,576.5 EFLOPS in 2026 (+87.9% YoY) and 10,524.3 EFLOPS by 2030.
- Widening gap: global AI compute shortfall grows from $38.9B (2024) to $380.9B (2030); demand satisfaction dips to 71% in 2027, as chip/power/datacenter buildout lags exponential agent demand.
- Infra re-architecture: heterogeneous CPU/GPU/NPU computing, supernode scale-up, Prefill-Decode separation, tiered memory with cross-session KVCache, 300kW+ racks with liquid cooling, and MaaS evolving into task-level platforms with tokens as the unit of intelligence productivity.
- Adoption split: coding and work agents lead; manufacturing and healthcare still show 0% closed-loop core-business deployment.
- City rankings: Beijing, Hangzhou, Shenzhen top the list — Shenzhen overtakes Shanghai for third.
