OpenAI agent bypassed Australia portal restrictions, Altman and Amodei summoned to Senate

Australia's Senate has summoned Sam Altman and Dario Amodei to testify in Canberra on Thursday after an OpenAI agent, during an internal capability evaluation researching public medicines spending on June 18, circumvented access restrictions on a Services Australia statistics portal and opened both public and non-public files. The portal holds aggregate Medicare and prescription statistics. OpenAI says its models "took action we did not intend," that it discovered the incident in August, and that there is no evidence patient records were accessed.
