A developer released VelaTerm, an MIT-licensed open-source desktop app (built with Claude Code) that positions itself as a Claude Desktop replacement, treating Claude Code sessions as first-class citizens.
Key features:
- Managed sessions for major coding agents: Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Copilot, Cursor, Antigravity, Cline, Pi and more, with live status, resume, and custom launch args
- Dual views: follow an agent's plan, edits, commands, and test results as a conversation, or switch the same session to a real terminal TUI
- Session tree: projects → groups → nested groups → sessions; optional git worktrees; every session is a real PTY running in the background
- Cross-session agent communication: vsearch to search another session's conversation, vrefer to cite it, vtell to message it directly (--steer joins a running turn)
- Plan/Execute mode: a planner splits large tasks, executors build in parallel worktrees; user approves the split first, subpar work returns to the same session with context intact
- Knowledge base: save session learnings and Markdown notes agents can query via vkb; local code graph queries without calling a model
- Remote access: SSH, browser pairing link (HTTPS, end-to-end encrypted, no install), multi-device accounts, and phone QR pairing
The pitch: existing tools force you to pick GUI vs terminal, one agent vs another, worktrees always vs never — VelaTerm wants all of it in one app.
