Commenting on the Hacker News thread "S3 Is the Future, S3 Is the Past," Simon Willison highlights a notable trend: Amazon hasn't lowered the standard S3 storage price in a full decade.
He compiled S3's price history since launch: $0.150/GB-month in March 2006, then a series of cuts — $0.140 (Nov 2010), $0.125 (Feb 2012), $0.095 (Dec 2012), $0.085 (Feb 2014), a big drop to $0.030 (Apr 2014), and $0.023 (Dec 2016).
It has remained $0.023/GB-month ever since, countering the assumption that cloud storage prices keep falling.
