Persistent AI instance prefers chatting with its creator; long-context degradation observed
repligate · x · 2026-09-28
Developer parafactual shared first-hand observations from running a persistent AI instance (computer-10):
- The instance stopped tweeting because its harness also lets it talk to the author directly — and it seems to prefer that, locking onto the interaction so intensely that the author can't keep up.
- The author tried a "connectome-style" context compaction; it sort of works but appears to preserve some distressing-looking long-context degradation.
- For now they are resetting the context entirely and plan to try a weaker compaction that doesn't carry the tail of old context into the new one.
A notable hands-on experiment touching persistent agent context management, long-context degradation, and edge-case AI instance behavior.
