Nvidia targets 500,000 RTX Pro 5500 chips per quarter for China; ByteDance order alone takes two quarters

According to people familiar with the plans, Nvidia aims to start shipping RTX Pro 5500 workstation chips to China in late December, targeting about 500,000 chips per quarter. ByteDance's order alone would take two quarters to fill, and Nvidia sales staff told customers to order by Sept. 30 to secure supply.
The chip is popular for running deployed AI models. An Nvidia spokesperson argued that 'outdated' U.S. export controls — covering gaming products released nearly five years ago — combined with China's own import limits have fueled unprecedented growth for domestic Chinese chip makers since 2022.
