Responding to a debate involving littmath, mathematician dsavitt took a hard line on AI-assisted paper writing: "Write the damn paper yourself."
His argument: the community broadly agrees AI arguments are good but the prose is bad — so the solution is simple. If you publish AI-written text while claiming authorship, you have authored a bad paper, and researchers simply shouldn't do it.
