Z.ai launches GLM-5.2: open weights land between Claude Opus 4.7 and 4.8, plus Z Code
AI Engineer · youtube · 2026-09-28
Z.ai head Zixuan Li introduces GLM-5.2:
- Scores between Claude Opus 4.7 and 4.8 on the hardest long-horizon coding and agentic benchmarks; its non-thinking mode beats GLM-5.1 with thinking on, and it leads open-weight models on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index.
- The GLM name traces to a 2021 paper that made Z.ai one of the earliest LLM labs.
- Li explains the open-weights strategy: enterprises and governments can run models on their own servers, companies fine-tune for law, finance and security, and customers co-design what comes next.
- One more thing: Z Code, Z.ai's own coding harness built for GLM-5.2 that also works with other frontier models.
