AlphaFold database adds 8,000+ virus protein complexes in pandemic preparedness push

- On September 24, researchers added over 8,000 virus protein dimers — interacting molecular pairs — to the AlphaFold Protein Structure Database, covering 23 virus families that all include human-infecting members, such as monkeypox.
- The predicted structures, generated with AlphaFold2 and freely available, are part of a new "pandemic preparedness portal" within the widely used database, aimed at better representing some of the least-known and deadliest species: viruses.
