LocalVocal brings fully offline voice chat to local LLMs and agents on Mac
joshwhiton · x · 2026-09-28
LocalVocal is a Mac app that runs entirely locally, enabling private, offline voice conversations with open-weight models via llama.cpp/omlx, LM Studio, Ollama, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, with all audio processed on Apple Silicon.
Beyond the app, a CLI/MCP tool gives agents like Claude Code, Codex, and OpenCode the ability to listen and speak: agents decide what to say aloud, what stays in the terminal, and when to listen. Voice ID can lock responses to the owner's voice, and voice can stay local while the model runs on a home server or VPS. The author uses it for endless free Q&A with local models on biology and physics.
