A Cleveland Clinic trial of CTX310, a one-time CRISPR therapy that edits the ANGPTL3 gene in liver cells, showed LDL cholesterol fell 52.5% and triglycerides 47.8% at one year in the four patients receiving the highest dose.
- 15 patients with medication-resistant lipid disorders enrolled
- Reductions persisted for 12 months
- No serious adverse events related to the therapy reported so far, with 15 years of safety follow-up planned
Researchers see it as a potential one-shot, long-lasting treatment for high cholesterol, a major driver of cardiovascular disease.
