DRAM output ~50EB vs NAND ~1100EB this year; CXL pooling is about utilization, not replacing eSSD
zephyr_z9 · x · 2026-09-27
Industry estimate: global DRAM production this year is roughly 48-50EB while NAND is around 1100EB — the NAND market is 22x larger on a bit basis. The author argues the biggest use case for CXL DRAM pooling is improving whole-system memory utilization, not moving data stored on eSSDs into pooled DRAM, pushing back on speculation that CXL will shrink AI-cluster eSSD demand.
