CAS team proposes periodic table of agent capabilities with 243 configurations
新智元 · wechat · 2026-09-27
A UCAS team's paper in Annals of Data Science builds a Mendeleev-style classification for agents: five basic capabilities (control, generation, memory, output, input) at three levels each yield 3^5 = 243 configurations. Humans and E. coli share the same cell; the framework maps the observers assumed by classical mechanics, relativity, and quantum mechanics to different cells; and its strict control criterion says every current AI system — including tool-using agents — scores zero on autonomy, since start, goal, and stop conditions all come from outside.
