Policy expert Dean Ball argues that AI safety folks and e/accs are nearly unique in that they (a) have seriously thought about transformative AI futures and (b) broadly want those futures to happen. He says the two camps agree on most things and are natural allies, urging an end to performative tribalism ("kayfabe").
In the quoted exchange, Nathan Calvin (AI Impacts) tells e/acc leader Beff he isn't fighting him: despite disagreements with Eliezer and leaning safety-side, both groups have thought about AI issues the longest, and concrete problem-solving beats an ideological meme war.
